A nominal sentence often appears as the form of “A，B也。”
This sentence means: A is B.
Ex 1
百里奚，虞人也。 Băi lǐ xī ，yú rén yě 。 | 百里奚：[N]a name 虞：[A]a name of a country |
百里奚is a person who came from虞. |
Ex 2
叔齊，賢人也。 shú qí ，xián rén yě 。 | 叔齊：[N]a Name 賢人：[N] worthy |
叔齊is a worthy. |
It is a very common sentence in classical Chinese. Sometimes “也yě” can be replaced by other words, like “矣yǐ”, or can be omitted.
