Classical Chinese (4) Nominal sentence

A nominal sentence often appears as the form of  “AB也。

This sentence means: A is B.

Ex 1
百里奚,虞人也。
Băi lǐ xī yú rén yě
百里奚:[N]a name
虞:[A]a name of a country
百里奚is a person who came from.


Ex 2
叔齊,賢人也。
shú qí xián rén yě
叔齊:[N]a Name
賢人:[N] worthy
叔齊is a worthy.


It is a very common sentence in classical Chinese. Sometimes “yě” can be replaced by other words, like “yǐ”, or can be omitted.
